What started as a small school project at Mount Sacred Heart
School in the 1990’s, has grown into a year-round
undertaking. It began when Fr. James Hubert asked the
students of MSH to bring a wrapped gift to share with a needy
child who may otherwise not receive a gift at Christmas time.
The legacy of Father James has survived and the program has
expanded to many other schools, businesses and individuals
participating to help the less fortunate. We are proud to serve
families whose children are in schools such as Stonewall-
Flanders, Columbia Heights, Adams and Gilbert Elementary
as well as others in the San Antonio Independent School
District and also Catholic Worker House, St. Vincent de Paul,
the Daughters of Charity, American Sunrise and Communities
in Schools of San Antonio. |
It is with that spirit and his example of serving the poor,
through his “Adopt A
Needy Family” program,
that we
continue his legacy of
touching those in need.
As you
formulate your additional
giving this year,
please consider our
mission in helping as
many families as possible
throughout the coming
years. As always,
your gift is tax deductible.

Testimonials
“ As a member of the community of the daughters of Charity of St.
Vincent de Paul, my ministry has been education of the needy.
AANF offers me another opportunity to continue, personally, to
serve families with needs. This ongoing project is worthy of my
wholehearted support.” -Sister Lucretia

“My experiences with the beginnings of Adopt A Needy Family
until present go back to the early 1990’s. The founder, Father James
Hubert, C.I.C.M asked me to work with him in bringing Christmas
gifts to needy children in the school where I was employed as a
school counselor. Over the years, hundreds of families have
received assistance with their basic needs through this ministry. I
was fortunate to work side by side with Father James for many years
fulfilling Christ's message: ‘Whatever you do to the least of my
brothers, you do unto me.’ The legacy given to each person through
ministry is truly a gift of God to His people. Through the years of
inspiration by Father James, I believe Christ is calling me to continue
to work with the poorest of the poor. Adopt A Needy Family
is a wonderful means to touch the poor, bring Christ’s presence to
others, giving them hope to embrace God’s love for them.”

“I am currently serving as a board member for Adopt A Needy
Family (AANF). I decided to participate as a board member because
I was familiar with how Father James assisted so many families
in need through this program. I wanted to be a part of helping
this program continue as he would have had he been present today.
Children are not able to apply themselves for their future when they
lack the basic needs. AANF provides help for these families, but
also expects them to see them create some forms of empowerment
as their responsibility.”
